body types

For 3DDS (3D digital sculpture) we were asked to do a study on the three different body types, which are ectomorph, mesomorph and endomorph. Every person is one type, some also being mostly one type and slightly another. Each body type has it’s different advantages or disadvantages and way of functioning.

Ectomorph

Ectomorph is the type of body where the bone structure is long and narrow, making the person very slender and tall. Ectomorphs tend to have difficulty gaining weight in either fat or muscle due to having a fast metabolism, burning up the nutrients needed for growth. Ectomorph tend to have thin faces as well as skinny torso and legs, their torso also tends to be small while their limbs tend to be long. Ectomorphs also are not very muscular unless they regularly weight train and use the correct diet; even so it is still hard for them to gain muscle. Ectomorphs have the potential to become great speed athletes, for example runners.

Mesomorph

Mesomorph is the type of body where the bone structure is broad and strongly built, making the person broad and quite square like. Mesomorphs tend to have no difficulty gaining or losing weight in either muscle or fat as the metabolism is quite fast but not enough the burn up all the calories. Their torsos and legs tend to be well balanced in length, as well as their faces are quite square. Mesomorphs have muscular bodies and if they train they take an athletic appearance, they respond very well to weight training and a good diet in order to gain size and definition. Mesomorphs have the potential to become great endurance athletes, an example of this is would be swimming.

Endomorph

Endomorph is the type of body where the bone structure is big and short making the person quite round and wide. Endomorphs tend to struggle losing weight and gain fat very easily but can gain muscle very easy due to having a slow metabolism, so, most of the nutrients wouldn’t be burned up. Endomorphs tend to have round faces and tend to be quite short, their torso’s are quite big while their legs are quite short. Endomorphs do have not very well toned muscles which are hidden by their body fat even if they train. Endomorphs do very well with weight training and develop muscle bulk very quickly, easily especially with a good diet. Endomorphs have the potential to become great strength athletes, an example would power lifters.

Learning outcome

In this assignment I learned about the different body types and how they work. By doing this I have learned to understand why people are all shapes and sizes and why certain people respond to certain diets or training. If I were to do this again I would try and learn more about drawing because I am not a confident drawer and I feel I need to learn more about shading and proportions.
